22 - "I tried to read the words, but the pictures kept intruding"

This week, Parrish joined me to talk about Saga volumes 1-3.  I'm mostly a prose reader, but whenever I've mentioned my interest in comics, people keep pointing me to Saga.  Parrish and I talked about Saga and the differences (and similarities) between comics and prose fiction.  Oddly, this discussion is basically spoiler-free.

The Buried Giant (cover)

This episode, Maureen Kincaid Speller (@maureenkspeller) and I conclude our discussion (part 1) of The Buried Giant, beginning with the figure of the boatman, and maintaining a focus on the personal relationships.

Our discussion covers the tussle between the personal and the political, anachronisms and the construction of a composite pre-Norman Britain, and moves to the conclusion of the novel as Axl and Beatrice meet the boatman who will carry them across the river.
